If I am to refer to myself as “roadie-lite,” it is for 2 simple reasons. 1. I don’t do much heavy lifting other than pushing around road-cases or carrying ice to the buses. 2. I wear dresses and makeup....well, not to work, but you know, on days off and stuff.
Not only do I wear the occasional mascara, but I work with makeup as well. Through wardrobe and dressing room needs, make up if an essential factor for most performers. But life on the road can be tough. Many times I’ve cringed as that brand new eye shadow or outrageously expensive powder jumps from the makeup bag and plunges to the floor.
If you didn’t know, this almost always results in the shattering of said item. Since I was thirteen and started wearing makeup, this has marked the end of a powder. Little pieces of make up just can’t be used. Until now. I tired an experiment a few weeks ago, unwilling to except that the powder was broken just hours before the show. And it worked!
Salvage that powder based makeup in only four easy steps:
Supplies:
-Broken compact/eye shadow/powder
-Rubbing alcohol (the higher percentage alcohol the better)
-Spoon or Make-up sponge
Step 1:
Arrange the broken powder as closely to the fit of the compact as possible.
Step 2:
Add a few drops of alcohol to the pieces of powder.
Step 3:
Using the back of the spoon or the make up sponge (I found the sponge easiest to use), smoosh* the wet powder into the form of the compact.
The idea here is that alcohol as a liquid will allow the powder to be reshaped. However, alcohol evaporates quickly, thus leaving the powder in the form it now holds.
Step 4:
Allow plenty of time to dry.
Author’s Note: To be honest, the compact doesn’t totally return to its a original state. It definitely still works, but there may be lumps in final-product. Or maybe, I am not as neat as I should have been. The final ascetic was my only issue. And, yes*, smooosh is now a new real word.
